Translating LAMS to all languages

If you are reading this page, it's most likely because you just become a LAMS translator! Congratulations and thank you for helping us translate LAMS to your language.

First of all, note that there's a dedicated thread for all discussions related to the Translation in the LAMS Community under the Tech Forums. If you have a comment, suggestion or want to discuss anything related to the translations, please post your comments there

Important!

We strongly encourage you to "request notifications" from this thread. This will ensure that you get an automatic email notification whenever we make an announcement or someone posts a message (see the link at the top of the thread)

Brief intro to Translations

Just a few things you need to know about LAMS 2.0 and its translations. There are a few important things you need to know:

  1. Weekly Updates
  2. Internationalization Site
  3. LAMS Translators server

Weekly Updated

Every Friday at 1PM Sydney Australia time (UTC+10), we add all the new and edited translations to the LAMS code. So all the labels and phrases you translated/re-edited, are added to LAMS.

We also upgrade the LAMS Translators server and post a message in the Internationalization thread letting everyone know of the update.

The Internationalization site

This is the website where all translations happen. in there you can see all the available modules for translation as well as a list of all the languages that these modules are being translated to and their status.

Once you have been become a translator for a particular language, you can start translating straight away: just click on the name of your language in any of the available modules, and voila... you'll see a list of all labels in English and in your language (if they have been translated already).

You can edit an existing translating by clicking on the "Edit Translation" button next to the label.

You can also use the "Bulk Translate" button to translate or edit all the labels for this module at one time.

Note: Bulk Translate might overwrite translations that were contributed by other members of your translating team, so be careful.

Or use the "Translate only missing labels" button to do just that

LAMS Translators server

There's a LAMS Translators server set for all LAMS translators so they can see their work in context. As you saw in the pictures above, the labels you translate are just a string of text. However, in order to get the right meaning (and therefore the right translation), we encourage you to login into the Translators server and view the labels you are translating in context. You should have already received your login and password for this site.
