Wookie is an open source Widget Engine based on the W3C Widgets specification. Wookie is a solution for adding widgets to applications. So we wanted to add widgets directly in LAMS.

At the Learning Design Bash at the Open University (July 2009), we demoed how to add Wookie widgets directly in LAMS activities.

Wookie and LAMS

Here are some examples on how to use Wookie Widgets within LAMS activities. We would like to make this easier for teacher so they can create educational/pedagogical activities using widgets.

The way I'd like to see this working is so that teachers can add any widget directly using an online HTML editor. For that, we can create a plugin for the editor so by clicking a button, the teacher gets to select which widget they want, they can configure it and then gets automatically added to the activity page.

A lot more to come in Wookie in the future.
