LAMS 2.3 Feature

The Image Gallery Tool is an upcoming feature of LAMS version 2.3

The Image Gallery tool allows authors and learners to upload a series of image to LAMS and review and rate them.

Image Gallery Authoring

Basic Tab

Image Gallery Basic Authoring tab.

The Basic Tab for the Image Gallery allows you to specify a title for the activity, give learners a set of instructions for completing the activity, and upload images for viewing.

  • Title: All Activities have a web page title which is presented at the top of the activity page when displayed in the Learning Environment. This is NOT the same title as the Title that can be set using the Properties Inspector.
  • Instructions: All Activities have a text area that is presented beneath the title. This is where the main activity text to be displayed to learners is entered. The text can be formatted using the Rich-Text Editor. Image, Video, Audio and URL content can also be displayed in the Instructions area.
  • Specific Features: Image Gallery
    • Clicking Add Image to add a new image to the activity.
      • Title - give the image a name.
      • Description - (Optional) Provide a brief note to go with the image.
      • File - browse to the location of the file on your hard disk.
        • Alternatively, you can click Upload Multiple Images to upload up to five images at once, however you will then need to go back through the images one by one and update the title and description.

  • Lock When Finished: This option is available on all Activities.
    • Enabling this option in Image Gallery means that learners will not be able to add images, add/edit comments or add/edit ratings after they click Finish on the activity. Learners will still be able to return to the activity via the progress bar and view the images.
    • If this option is disabled, Learners will be able to make changes to the activity until the sequence is stopped.
  • Allow Learners to Share their own images
    • This feature, when enabled, allows Learners to upload images to the activity for review and/or comment.
    • When disabled, only the images uploaded by the author and monitor are visible. Learners cannot add their own images.
      • Notify monitoring teachers...: sends email notifications to all monitors when a Learner uploads an image to the activity.
This options requires an SMTP server to be configured for LAMS. Contact your System Administrator for details.
  • Allow Learners to comment on images
    • When enabled, learners can add text comments to each image.
  • Enable Feedback: There are two options for learner feedback in the Image Gallery.
    • *... Select Favourite Images... *: allows learners to select favourite images which will be collated in the monitoring view.

Image Gallery Monitoring

Summary Screen

Image Gallery Summary tab.

The Summary Tab for Image Gallery shows all the images that have been uploaded to the activity, their titles and average rating.

For each image, Monitors can choose to hide the image from the activity.

Monitors can also add images to the activity from this screen.

View of the Instructions tab.

In the Authoring Environment, Authors can use the Instructions Space to attach support files for a specific activity, or leave comments for othe Monitors about how a given activity should be run.

These comments and files can be viewed from here - the Instructions Tab.

Edit Activity

Clicking the Edit Activity button opens a new screen identical to the 'Basic' tab in the authoring environment.

LAMS allows monitors to edit Image Galleries that have already been accessed by Learners, LAMS versions, but provide a notice warning monitors that changing the content will result in students receiving different information:

Warning: One of more students have accessed this activity. Changing this content will result in students getting different information.

Unlike Live Edit, this form of Editing can only modify the content of an activity, as opposed to the structure of a sequence.

The Image Gallery summary tab.

The Image Gallery Summary tab displays a breakdown of the number of ratings an image has recieved, and the average score from those ratings.
Where applicable, it will list the username associated with any learner-uploaded images.
